Why Aloe Vera is Healthier than Water that is Commonly Used in Personal Care Products

Our grandmothers had them. Secret recipes with which they whipped up delectable meals. We would incessantly prod, even beg them for these recipes, eager to try them in our kitchens. But we would swiftly get appalled at our inability to replicate the savory meals they made. Let’s just say it was their superpower.

At Ruby Blue Bunny™, we have a unique way of manufacturing our baby personal care products. But we won’t keep it a secret, today we allow you to take a tour in our kitchen. Feel free to take a peek at how we combine ingredients to bring you the safest and gentlest natural products for your baby's hair and skincare.

A Proprietary Aloe Vera Is Ruby-Blue Bunny's First Ingredient

There, we said it. Having proprietary Aloe Vera as our first ingredient is one of the prime reasons our products ooze with efficacy. Grab any cosmetic or skincare product in your cabinet and pore over the winding list of ingredients. Most personal care products have water (aqua) listed as their first ingredient. That means that water takes up the highest percentage of their products.
In our quest to manufacture the most effective products, it didn’t feel right to have water scoop up the trophy among our ingredients. We, therefore, defied popular opinion and sought a more effective first ingredient. After tons of research, we unearthed the goodness of Proprietary aloe Vera as a first ingredient.

Why Not Water?

Just for the record, we have nothing against the precious resource that water is in our environment. Water is a great skin hydrant and has been used for decades as the first ingredient in cosmetics and skin care products where it acts as a solvent.
There are however several reasons why water may not be the ideal main ingredient in personal care products:
  1. It’s a Cheap Option.
Being readily available, many manufacturers will not hesitate to use water as their first ingredient. It, after all, saves them oodles of bucks.
  2. It Can Be Contaminated
Ideally, manufacturers are required to use distilled water. But because they are not pressed to divulge the source of their water, some may use contaminated water which can, in turn, pose a risk to the consumer.
  3. Water Necessitates the Use of Preservatives
Using water as the main ingredient sets the stage for bacteria growth, thereby requiring manufacturers to use preservatives to curb their growth. Some of the commonly used skincare preservatives are toxic to the skin.
  4. Emulsifiers Are needed If the Product Contains oil
It’s a well-known fact that oil and water do not mix. When a product contains both, it needs a third ingredient to hold it together. An emulsifier becomes the arbitrator and faithfully binds the two.  Unfortunately, many emulsifiers are major skin irritants, which beats the purpose of the product in the first place.
  5. Water Dilutes the Useful Ingredients in Skincare Products
A product may contain the choicest ingredients alright but if its ultimately drowned in water, its efficacy is sabotaged. Talk of being watered down-literally.
  6. Why Proprietary Aloe Vera Tops Water as a First Ingredient
Can anything good sprout from dry sun-scorched land? The aloe Vera, a short-stemmed plant with triangular cactus-like leaves defies the arid climate and flourishes there.

This plant has been used for many centuries for both beauty and medicinal purposes. Ancient Egyptians hailed the aloe Vera plant as the ‘plant of immortality’ and their queens incorporated it in their beauty regimen. Some kings like Alexander the great used the plant to treat their soldiers’ wounds. The Chinese, on the other hand, dubbed it the ‘elixir of youth’.

The aloe Vera plant does not rake in all these accolades in vain. Studies reveal that it has over 75 medicinal components.

Benefits of Aloe Vera in Skincare Products

The Aloe Vera plant is a goldmine, oozing with a boatload of curative properties such as vitamins, minerals, folic acid, enzymes, fatty acids, amino acids, proteins, and carbohydrates.

Given its compatibility with our organic botanical ingredients, we couldn’t think of a better ingredient to use as the base for all our products. Here are the staggering benefits that aloe Vera injects into our products:

  • Reduces "angry" skin - This is the major reason why we found Aloe irresistible. It has amazing skin soothing agents and antibacterial properties that nip red and sore skin in the bud. A study published in 2008 found Aloe Vera to be more effective than hydrocortisone cream, a common medication used for skin problems.

  • Supports Wound Healing - Aloe accelerates the healing of wounds by propelling the production of collagen, a major protein in the human body.

  • Fights free radicals that can dull and age the skin -  Aloe can improve the appearance of wrinkles and increases the skin's elasticity.

  • Reduces acne - It’s numerous antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties in aloe can aid in clearing pores that can result in acne, and help reduce skin pigmentation.

  • Great moisturizer - Aloe Vera is a remarkable skin moisturizer, a perfect antidote for dry skin. It acts by forming a protective barrier on the skin thereby locking moisture.

At Ruby Blue Bunny™, we use a premium proprietary form of organic Aloe Vera for wow power!

The Aloe Vera leaf has 3 parts. The outer thick leaf layer, the middle layer (latex) and the inner clear gel(fillet). The middle layer consists of a bitter yellow sap with high amounts of a latex known as aloin. The inner clear gel may also have traces of aloin.

Aloin is a laxative which doubles up as a skin irritant.  Some skincare products are made from the entire crushed leaf. Such products will consequently have both the gel and the laxative. This may trigger allergies and other unsavory side effects to the consumer.

But that’s not the case with our baby skin and hair products. Far from it!

We use a proprietary Aloe Vera that uses the latest bio-technology to create not only a clean ingredient, but one that condensed the beneficial properties of aloe, such as it's polysaccharides. Fresh aloe leaves are carefully selected and the fillet is cautiously removed, steering clear of the aloin layer. The fillet is then meticulously processed to rid it of pulp, fiber, and other impurities.

In this chemical-free procedure, polysaccharides in the aloe Vera are modified to boost their bioactivity. Polysaccharides endow aloe Vera with its healing and soothing properties. When modified, their efficacy is skyrocketed.

As a result,  proprietary aloe is 3 times more effective than ordinary aloe Vera. The cherry on top? Studies have endorsed proprietary aloe Vera as safe for use.

We take pride in our foundational base!

Aloe Vera is one of nature’s antidote to a myriad of human skin ailments. It bears numerous soothing and healing properties and has been used for many centuries. This holy grail in skincare has been passed down from one generation to the next.

Driven by our mission to manufacture the safest baby skin and hair products, we use Proprietary aloe Vera, the premium and most effective form of aloe as the first ingredient in all our products.

We do not use water, unlike other manufacturers, because our aim is to improve our products and not to fizzle out their efficacy. Coupled with our organic toxic-free botanical ingredients, its little wonder that our products are the gentlest yet most potent in the industry.
