After months of giddy anticipation and endless planning, we hear their first cry and moments later they are placed in our arms. As we revel in the flood of emotions that a new baby brings, we are certain of one thing. We will spend every waking moment nourishing and protecting our fragile bundle of joy.
And so we start off with great intentions until the world starts poking holes into our happily ever after plan. We are swiftly thrown off balance by the myriad of harmful substances lurking in wait for our little ones.
Isn’t it ironical that we now have toxins in baby food and products? Aren’t babies the best representation of innocence and purity? Aren’t their formative years sacred and shouldn’t they be guarded jealously by all?
A recent report by Healthy Babies Bright Futures has cast a dark shadow over the hearts of many parents. The report unearthed the grim news that 95% of 168 commercial baby food tested for heavy metals was indeed found to contain lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium.
Arsenic was more prevalent in rice-based foods. Other foods that were highly laced with these metals are teething biscuits, fruit juices, infant formula, carrots, and sweet potatoes.
What is the source of these heavy metals and how do they leach into commercially produced baby foods? These metals are naturally occurring chemical elements that are commonly used to manufacture pesticides and other industrial products. They tend to seep into the soil and underground water, lingering there for decades and infiltrating human food.
How Do Heavy Metals Affect Babies?Did you know that children are more prone to environmental risks than adults? This is because of their tender immune system coupled with the fact that they are growing rapidly. Children are also more likely to get into contact with dirt and harmful substances due to their curious and explorative nature.
Heavy metals are poisonous to the nervous system and can ignite adverse effects on growing children. Their presence may hamper a child’s brain development and cripple their IQ. They are also associated with a rise in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
But that’s not all, all the three metals involved in the study (apart from mercury) are human carcinogens.
How Else Do Children Get Exposed to Heavy Metals and other Harmful Substances?
Now that we have started cleaning up the filth, we may as well overturn the whole house and toss out all the gunk. Did you know that personal skincare products are another route through which toxic elements gnaw on our kids?
Research indicates that it is indeed possible for toxins from skincare products to seep into the human body. Unfortunately, many adult and baby personal skincare products are loaded with harmful substances.
We all love babies that smell heavenly from head to toe, especially after a cozy warm bath. We, therefore, scrutinize the stores for products infused with the sweetest scents, eager to smother them lovingly on our tots.
But before you slather that lotion onto your baby’s fragile skin, take a moment and think about the products in the tub.
Did you know that many baby skincare products are laced with harsh chemicals that can penetrate your child’s fragile skin?
Facts about what we now know baby personal care products:
It’s no wonder that our environment and wildlife are already choking under the weight of these pollutants. Additionally, exposure to a wide range of toxins may spark off a cocktail effect that the human body is unable to flush out.
It is easy for parents to feel helpless altogether in the face of the plethora of toxic substances that prey on their kids. It’s however not all gloom, parents can duck for cover and shield their kids from this menace.
Choose Baby Food WiselyHere are a few cautionary measures you can take to ensure your baby’s food is safe:
As aforementioned, children are more vulnerable than adults to the inordinate amounts of pollutants in our environment. In the face of the thick cloud of despair that this realization brings, Ruby-Blue Bunny baby skincare products stand out like a lighthouse.
Our skin and hair care products are completely devoid of any endocrine disruptors, phthalates and other harsh chemicals. We have an extensive ‘No list’ that details harmful substances against which a NSF International Approved Independent lab tests our products.
Additionally, all the ingredients used in our products are organic, making our products a safe haven for kids.
But keeping harmful substances at bay is not all we do, we infuse our products with blends of the highest quality botanical ingredients that soothe, cleanse, moisturize and provide vital antioxidants to your baby.
What’s more, we use the highest concentration of these organic ingredients and unlike other companies, we do not dilute our products with water. We blend our ingredients with proprietary aloe Vera, bringing on board its immense healing and soothing properties.
And finally, we seal the deal by packaging our unrivaled products in BPA and Phthalate-free containers.
What about Natural Products?
Are they the same as Organic?
Many well-meaning parents assume that natural products are the same as organic, hoping that they are devoid of harsh and toxic substances.
We hate to be the bearers of bad news but nothing could be further from the truth. Most natural products are still laced with growth hormones, artificial flavors, and antibiotics. Just because they are labeled ‘natural’ doesn’t mean that their production has been monitored and certified.
Organic farming, on the other hand, involves rigorous inspection and certification to ensure that no toxic pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, GMOs, growth hormones and antibiotics are used. Additionally, 95% of the products must be organically produced and the other 5% approved by USDA’s National List.
At Ruby-Blue Bunny, we use science and testing to bring you the most effective, beneficial and safest baby skin and hair products in the industry. We have over 25 years creating organic skin care, so we know a thing or two, or three! :-)

Why Aloe Vera is Healthier than Water that is Commonly Used in Personal Care Products
Our grandmothers had them. Secret recipes with which they whipped up delectable meals. We would incessantly prod, even beg them for these recipes, eager to try them in our kitchens. But we would swiftly get appalled at our inability to replicate the savory meals they made. Let’s just say it was their superpower.
At Ruby Blue Bunny™, we have a unique way of manufacturing our baby personal care products. But we won’t keep it a secret, today we allow you to take a tour in our kitchen. Feel free to take a peek at how we combine ingredients to bring you the safest and gentlest natural products for your baby's hair and skincare.
A Proprietary Aloe Vera Is Ruby-Blue Bunny's First Ingredient
There, we said it. Having proprietary Aloe Vera as our first ingredient is one of the prime reasons our products ooze with efficacy. Grab any cosmetic or skincare product in your cabinet and pore over the winding list of ingredients. Most personal care products have water (aqua) listed as their first ingredient. That means that water takes up the highest percentage of their products.
In our quest to manufacture the most effective products, it didn’t feel right to have water scoop up the trophy among our ingredients. We, therefore, defied popular opinion and sought a more effective first ingredient. After tons of research, we unearthed the goodness of Proprietary aloe Vera as a first ingredient.
Why Not Water?
Just for the record, we have nothing against the precious resource that water is in our environment. Water is a great skin hydrant and has been used for decades as the first ingredient in cosmetics and skin care products where it acts as a solvent.
There are however several reasons why water may not be the ideal main ingredient in personal care products:
The aloe Vera plant does not rake in all these accolades in vain. Studies reveal that it has over 75 medicinal components.
Benefits of Aloe Vera in Skincare Products
The Aloe Vera plant is a goldmine, oozing with a boatload of curative properties such as vitamins, minerals, folic acid, enzymes, fatty acids, amino acids, proteins, and carbohydrates.
Given its compatibility with our organic botanical ingredients, we couldn’t think of a better ingredient to use as the base for all our products. Here are the staggering benefits that aloe Vera injects into our products:
The Aloe Vera leaf has 3 parts. The outer thick leaf layer, the middle layer (latex) and the inner clear gel(fillet). The middle layer consists of a bitter yellow sap with high amounts of a latex known as aloin. The inner clear gel may also have traces of aloin.
Aloin is a laxative which doubles up as a skin irritant. Some skincare products are made from the entire crushed leaf. Such products will consequently have both the gel and the laxative. This may trigger allergies and other unsavory side effects to the consumer.
But that’s not the case with our baby skin and hair products. Far from it!
We use a proprietary Aloe Vera that uses the latest bio-technology to create not only a clean ingredient, but one that condensed the beneficial properties of aloe, such as it's polysaccharides. Fresh aloe leaves are carefully selected and the fillet is cautiously removed, steering clear of the aloin layer. The fillet is then meticulously processed to rid it of pulp, fiber, and other impurities.
In this chemical-free procedure, polysaccharides in the aloe Vera are modified to boost their bioactivity. Polysaccharides endow aloe Vera with its healing and soothing properties. When modified, their efficacy is skyrocketed.
As a result, proprietary aloe is 3 times more effective than ordinary aloe Vera. The cherry on top? Studies have endorsed proprietary aloe Vera as safe for use.
We take pride in our foundational base!
Aloe Vera is one of nature’s antidote to a myriad of human skin ailments. It bears numerous soothing and healing properties and has been used for many centuries. This holy grail in skincare has been passed down from one generation to the next.
Driven by our mission to manufacture the safest baby skin and hair products, we use Proprietary aloe Vera, the premium and most effective form of aloe as the first ingredient in all our products.
We do not use water, unlike other manufacturers, because our aim is to improve our products and not to fizzle out their efficacy. Coupled with our organic toxic-free botanical ingredients, its little wonder that our products are the gentlest yet most potent in the industry.
Not all aloe products that contain aloe are created equal. A recent Bloomberg Report exposed aloe products sold at Walmart, Target and CVS did not contain aloe.
Aloe can be made from the waxy outer leaf – called ‘Whole Leaf’ or from the inner leaf, called ‘Gel Fillet’. The problem with aloe that includes any part of the whole leaf will contain high amounts of a latex called aloin. Aloin is a known laxative and skin irritant. Whole Leaf aloe should be used with caution and never be used on sensitive skin and wounds.
Aloe's inner leaf ‘Gel Fillet’ is a gel-like substance that contains only small amount of aloin and is abundant in vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, (polysaccharides), fatty acids, and amino acids.
EcoNatura supports botanical ingredients that are trusted and verified and have maximum bioactive health benefits. This is why we chose a proprietary brand of Aloe to use as the primary base in all our skin care formulations. We never dilute our products with water.
Why we choose a premium certified organic aloe?
1. Aloe is from the gel fillet of the Aloe Vera plant
2. The proprietary aloe has been scientifically proven to be up to 3 times more effective than other commercially available aloe vera
3. Our aloe not only exceeds the standards established by the International Aloe Science Council’s (IASC) Certification Program for content and purity, but more importantly, it is the only brand of aloe vera that quantify and guarantees polysaccharides. Polysaccharide's give aloe its soothing and healing benefits. Therefore, by increasing the polysaccharide content of the aloe vera its effectiveness is increased.
The unique chemical-free processing technique of the aloe protects the potency of the inner leaf, allowing its robust properties to stimulate human macrophage cells that decrease inflammation and encourage tissue repair, thus effectively speeding up skin irritation, wound and burn healing.
EcoNatura products are like no other. There is a purpose and a reason for every ingredient we choose. We provide skin care that is alive and active to respond to the changing needs of your skin - to clean, to protect, to heal, to nourish.
How we can help detoxing our kids
Unfortunately, today’s children definitely bear a higher chemical burden than they would have 100 years ago. The list of “toxicity” symptoms is varied, but may include: difficulty with elimination (constipation, profuse sweating), headaches, rashes, bleeding gums, muscle and joint aches, difficulty breathing or concentrating, memory problems, heart palpitations, and sensitivity to sugar, MSG, or grains.
Todays kids undoubtedly coexists with noxious chemicals. Chubby kids, in particular, are more likely to be “toxic” because the body uses fatty tissues to wall off chemicals that can’t be broken down.
If you are suspicious of your child having a heavy toxic burden it is best to consult your child's pediatrician or integrative health practitioner who can prescribe a specialized physician-guided detoxification treatment plan. This is not something to do on your own.
There are steps however you take at home now to start reducing toxins from your child's body. Your child's liver and kidneys are designed to remove toxin naturally. The best way we can support these organs is by making sure our children eat highly nutritious fruits and vegetables. As they say - "eat the rainbow". For instance green vegetables contain antioxidants and chlorophyll which is designed to remove environmental toxins; lemons, orange's and limes have a lot of vitamin C which can transform toxins into digestible material. Now we know that getting these gifts of goodness into our little ones can sometimes be a challenge, however, the web is filled with recipes and tips such as this one from Fruits & Veggies MORE MATTERS to help you get started. Our go to recipe is tacos! Organic beef and turkey with all kinds of tiny chopped of cooked veggies seem to go unnoticed when place in a fun taco shell.
Helping detox your child is also about simply limiting exposure to everyday chemicals - they are everywhere. Below are suggestions of everyday life changes that can be taken to help further your mission to detox your child.
Pro Tip - Read the labels.
Did you know skin care is notoriously dirty? - ironic huh!
Skin care is not really regulated by the FDA because you "do not eat the product". What they fail to recognize is that we do eat the products through skin absorption. (1, 2 )
Reading the labels can make you more aware of what you are bringing into your home or putting on your skin. Look out for some of these word in your products: Methyl, Propyl, Butyl, and Ethyl Paraben, Propylene Glyco, Sodium Laurel Sulfate, PEG, Triethanolamine (TEA)/Diethanolamine (DEA), Toluene, Fragrance (yep - that means there is some type of chemical that makes the product smell yummy - but it is really bad for all of us). The basic rule of thumb is if you can not pronounce it, or do not recognize the word - you do not want it on your skin, or eating it for that matter.

At EcoNatura - All Healthy World and Ruby-Blue Bunny we know the joys of having a clean healthy mind and body. Our mission is to create tested and certified skin care products that are harsh chemical-free and hormone disruptor-free. Our formulations use innovative organic botanicals ingredients that support natural detox and provide dense phytonutrients to nourish the skin and body. We use only the best of what nature has to offer because we want you and your family to celebrate good health!
Check one off for the good clean products! After years of controversy and complaints to the FDA about concerns from consumers and those of us working in the Natural Consumer Product Industry for healthy clean products, the FDA announced a ban on ingredients in Antibacterial Products and Body Washes (see below). Over the years we have worked very hard to help educate and reach our goal to reduce harsh chemicals affecting the risks of Hormone/Endocrine Disrupters (EDC’s) in products by offering an alternative of pure wholesome products derived from natural salts, gums and organic ingredients. Not only do our products perform, they are tested for Hormone/Endocrine Disrupters (EDC’s). We take extra steps to ensure every process from ingredients to the equipment the product comes into contact with, to the final packaging, will not contain any chemical that may leach into our products. We do this while offering superior performance and healthy results.
If the product makes antibacterial claims and they have followed the correct monograph (rules for labeling set by the FDA), then on of the 19 ingredients listed below such as “triclosan, triclocarban” should be listed on the label of the product. Companies have a year to remove these ingredients from their products or remove the products from the market, the agency said. Note: This ban only applies to consumer products.
Here is a list of the 19 ingredients you want to watch out for:
FDA report states: in 2013 Consumer Wash PR they identified certai active ingredients that were considered ineligible for evaluation under the OTC Drug Review as a consumer antiseptic wash; and noted they are waiting for requested documentation for eligibility the following active ingredients could be determined to be eligible for evaluation:

Peter Rabbit Intense Therapy Cream is now Ruby-Blue Bunny Manuka Honey Body and Bum Cream
We have seen many posts throughout the web of many customers desperately looking for the Peter Rabbit brand product called, Manuka Therapy Cream.
Spread the word, because you have found it right here. The entire line of Peter Rabbit products has been renamed to Ruby-Blue Bunny. Licensing fee’s to borrow the art and naming rights of ‘Peter Rabbit’ became too expensive and we did not want to sacrifice any of our organic ingredients just for a name. So we have taken the rabbit by the ears and created a new timeless classic organic brand called Ruby-Blue Bunny to replace Peter Rabbit. Same company, same women-owned US business, same mission – just a new name.
What about the formulations? We still have the same unique proprietary blends of richly concentrated organic botanical extracts and certify all our products to be endocrine disruptor-free and harsh ingredient-free (refer to our NO LIST to see what is never allowed in our products).
For those looking for Manuka Therapy Cream – it is now named, Manuka Honey Body and Bum Cream. We use specific blended beneficial organic ingredients, and Manuka Honey 12+ that have been studied throughout history for it’s therapeutic and antiseptic properties. It is the reason why skin irritation’s reacts so positively to it.
At EcoNatura and Ruby-Blue Bunny we have used it on our families for everything skin related. Diaper rash, cuts and abrasions, sunburns, facial cream, after shaving, after breast-feeding on sore nipples, dry brittle hair, dry lips, blisters, lumpy and bumpy skin and rashes of all sorts.
